Phragmites contract

City Council voted unanimously to award a contract for phragmites treatment to Cardno, a global infrastructure and environmental services company, for $5,125 over five years, $1,025 per year.
Cardno is also used by Independence and Brandon townships.
Bids were also received from Plantwise for $5,050 for five years. Requests for quotes were sent to two other companies, no response
The five year plan is needed in order to control the invasive species, said City Manager Jonathan Smith.
“They’re very aggressive plants – we have to stay on them year after year after year,” Smith said at the Aug. 14 City Council meeting. “We used Cardno last year. They do an exceptional job.”
The city joined the Oakland County Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area (CISMA) in May, and will be eligible to apply for grants next year.

Parking lot project

City engineers will take a look at a plan to seal-coat city parking lots at Main and Washington, and Depot Road.
City Manager Jonathan Smith recommended pulling $16,000 from the Miller Road repaving fund to pay for the seal coating, which would gain another 4-5 years of life for the two lots.
City engineer Gary Tressel said repaving the top layer of Miller, as planned, would be ineffective because its subbase is breaking down.
Full pulverization and a new road on top is needed, which will cost over $100,000, Smith said.
The city manager proposed hot patching, fill cracks, and seal-coat Miller Road to get 3-4 years out of it, until funds are available to repave it.
City Council voted unanimously to table the project in order for Smith to consult further with Tressel and seek more quotes.

Football for a Cure

The Clarkston Wolves gridiron gang hosts Bloomfield Hills Blackhawks for their annual Football for a Cure on Friday, September 8, 7 p.m..
