Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies D.J. Eastman and Clinton Thom earned Certificates of Recognition at the 2018 MADD Lifesavers Recognition Awards ceremony, June 7 in Mt. Pleasant.
Assigned to the Independence Township substation, the deputies were nominated for the awards for their efforts to enforce driving-while-intoxicated laws, said Lt. Larry Perry, substation commander.
“I’m very proud of them – they went above and beyond what their normal duties were,” said Perry, who also nominated the substation for a Lifesavers Award for making over 43 OWI arrests this year.
Eastman made more than 14 OWI arrests in the past year, attended additional trainings and researched tactics in identifying drunk drivers, volunteers to work extra drunk-driving details, and assists other deputies in need during OWI arrests, Perry said.
Thom made over 10 OWI arrests in his first year with OCSO, taken specialized training in drugged driving, trained in Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement, and assists other deputies with OWI arrests.
