Club Create Clarkston, an art and social class for special needs adults, recently received a $500 donation from the Knights of Columbus St. Daniel Council #15967.
“The donation will help Club Create Clarkston continue to provide socialization and creative expression opportunities for our members,” said club co-founder Robert White.
Club Create Clarkston currently meet the first and third Monday of the month from 4:30-6 p.m. at Picasso’s Grapevine Studio at their new location “At The Barn,” 4215 Clarkston Road.
White founded Club Create Clarkston in 2015 with his wife, Cecilia, Picasso’s Grapevine Studio owner Leanna Haun, and Kathy Cole, a representative of VSA Michigan, the state’s organization on arts and disability
“Since that time our membership has grown to 52 members, with interest and membership continuing to increase as more and more residents in northern Oakland County hear about and experience this wonderful opportunity,” White said.
Robert and his wife are active parent advocates at a local, state and federal level on issues impacting their two adult sons with special needs as well as the broader special needs population.
Geoff Wright, representing Knights Of Columbus St. Daniel Council #15967 presented the check along with Candace Mikesell and Max Niederluecke at Picasso’s Grapevine Studio. The donation was part of funds raised through the 2018 Tootsie Roll Drive, which was then distributed to organizations serving the community.
“The St. Daniel Council of the Knights of Columbus would like to thank the Clarkston community for their ongoing support through donations to the annual Tootsie Roll Drive where funds raised are used to benefit people with intellectual and developmental disabilities,” said Wright, deputy grand knight of Council #15967.
“Club Create Clarkston would not be the success it is today without the ongoing support of our volunteers the charitable contributions from private donors and the Knights Of Columbus councils in our local area,” White said.
Club Create Clarkston is an affiliate of VSA Michigan, a 501c3 non-profit organization promoting the creative power of people with special needs.
