Letter to the Editor: Issues with speed

I recently read the article “Speeding an issue on Pine Knob Road” in your Aug. 3 publication.
I live on Whipple Lake Road and I also have an issue with the posted speed limit.
Unlike Pine Knob Road, Whipple Lake Road is posted at 45mph.
Like Pine Knob Road, these are residential roads without sidewalks. Therefore, people (including kids) walk, run, walk dogs, and bicycle on the road.
If all drivers would slow down when approaching someone that is in the street, I probably wouldn’t be writing this letter, but most drivers do not slow down.
Being a walker myself, I am afraid that it is just a matter of time before someone gets hit.
Oakland County has many residential gravel roads and I think there are many residents, like myself, that would like to see the speed limit lowered.
If a residential gravel road, without sidewalks, has a speed limit of 45 or over, then why do I see many paved roads with accommodating sidewalks with a speed limit of only 35mph?
Also, what makes the residential gravel roads different than a residential paved road?
