Letter to the Editor: Take note – No Memorial Day cemetery service this holiday

Dear Editor,

Due to continued mandates concerning public gatherings and other uncertainties regarding public health issues, Campbell-Richmond Post 63 regrets having to announce the cancellation of its annual Memorial Day service at Lakeview Cemetery scheduled for May 31, 2021.
This cancellation was a result of some of the continued mandates affecting public gatherings such as masking, seating, and vaccinations.
These and other uncertainties impacted greatly our planning and preparation time for this program.
The American Legion wishes to acknowledge the many other participants who have assisted the American Legion in this service over the years.
We thank the many history students from the Clarkston Junior High School and the Clarkston High School band members, the “unnamed” Clarkston vocal group, our “ladies in mourning,” the cemetery staff, and the general pubic for their show of patriotism by attending our past services.
As no service will be held on Memorial Day, several members of the American Legion Post 63 alternatively will go to the cemetery that Monday morning to honor our deceased Veterans by the playing of “Taps” accompanied by the traditional lowering of our country’s flag to half mast. “A small gesture filled with a large sense of respect and thankfulness for our nation’s veterans.”
The placing of flags on the grave sites at Lakeview Cemetery will still take place as it has done in the past, on Sunday, May 30 at 10 a.m. If you would like to participate, you are invited to do so.

Sincerely,
Barney E. Schoenfeld
