Mueller’s Musings: I didn’t plan this

I’m not supposed to be here right now. I was supposed to be in Canada with my hockey team from the previous season, not here in Michigan. That was my intention until COVID-19 took over and wrecked my plans along with the whole rest of the world.
I was also supposed to go to college right after high school, and that clearly did not happen either. There’s a saying out there that goes, “If you want to make God laugh, make plans.”
We have all made plans. Plans to become rich and famous, goals to raise a happy family. Even simple tasks like getting to bed before 10 p.m. get messed up, turned around and completely altered until we are staring at our fan spinning around and around past 2 a.m. wondering what happened.
Garth Brooks sings a song, “Unanswered Prayers.” He floats you through a story of his high school love who he planned to spend eternity with, but that image of crumbled, and they broke up. Through the sorrow and tough times, he found his true soulmate.
All throughout our lives, we run into instances where our idea of how our life should go takes dramatic turns. To us, the world is falling apart before us. However, to God or whatever you may believe in, it is the perfectly imperfect plan we are destined for.
This concept can be odd and faith testing, but look at everything in your life now. If you take a second to go back and think about what went wrong to allow you to meet your best friend or to find your new favorite home, you will be happily baffled.
We are not able to control our entire lives. We can only control how we adjust and how we break through the barriers and create the life we are given rather than take the life we choose.
I wasn’t supposed to be here right now, but I am, and despite the losses and changes to my plans made to get me here, I could not be happier or more thankful for this opportunity.
Thank you to the team of talented people at The Clarkston News and thank you to the readers for allowing me to share.
Signing off to the city of Clarkston one last time. I hope you remember my name: Jack Mueller.
