Mueller’s Musings: What is a mom?

“A female parent.”
That is Merriam Webster’s first and incredibly to-the-point definition of “Mom.”
A mom can be a plethora of different forms for people of all kinds and backgrounds, it doesn’t matter if your mom is tall or short, black or white, married or divorced, widowed or up above. You can have two moms or none at all.
They could be a sister, a grandma, an aunt or a complete stranger. The image of a mom, whether it be perfectly healthy or fighting for life has no true illustration.
The definition of a mom is astonishingly complicated and yet so elegantly understandable.
A mom is teaching you the perfect knot to keep those shoes on tight.
A mom is getting you the extra-large popcorn as you sit on the edge of your seat lost in a world of superheroes and princesses.
A mom is the voice calling you back when you’re lost in the grocery store…again.
The definition evolves as you get older. Fights will be had, and eyes will be rolled, but the arms will remain open through games lost and hearts broken.
A mom will be proud of accomplishments both big and small as she will always nag you to do more despite her amazement in you.
A mom will always be around when you want her, when you need her, and especially when you want nothing to do with her. You will grow up and she will grow old. Her feet will ache, and her body will tire, but you will never hear.
She will still cook you dinner and be sure to pack you leftovers. Her smile will gain wrinkles, but its joy will never fade.
She will leave this earth one day, but she will never leave you.
There is no definition of mom. They are our own flawless image no matter the relation. They know our favorite snack, what makes us laugh and what makes us cry.
My mom is uniquely mine and yours is perfectly yours.
Hope all the moms out there had a Happy Mother’s Day.
Thank you for writing your own definition.
Sincerely,
The World
