Clarkston’s signage contractor, ASI Signage, is making progress on the installation of the new city signs, as the six entryway signposts and entryway signs have been installed.
Weather permitting, the crews will complete the installations this week.
“This project was planned for and budgeted, but the project was largely made possible by excess funds identified last year in one of the city’s Special Assessment District (SAD) accounts,” said Clarkston City Manager Jonathan Smith.
The cost of the new signs and corner street name signs approved by council on August 24, 2020 is $32,758. The total surplus from the two SAD accounts closed out on April 27, 2020 was $57,165.
The city is obtaining a quote from ASI for purchasing additional sign poles for other signs throughout the city, such as speed limit and parking signs. All of the old signs will be auctioned off to raise funds for the additional poles.
“Even after ASI completes their installations, there will be additional work needed by our DPW staff to fully complete the vision of the Sign Committee,” Smith said.
“That vision includes the elimination of all ugly, leaning and warped 4×4 signposts in the city as well as combining or eliminating duplicate signs wherever possible in the city.”
