New music videos at Clarkston Idol

Izzy Wheeler, performing at last year’s Clarkston Idol, returns to the stage for the 2019 show.

The Clarkston A Cappella program will unveil their first professionally produced music videos this Saturday, at Clarkston Idol.
The videos by Detroit Voice and Clarkston Synergy were recorded professionally and then shot at Camp A Cappella this past summer in Ohio.
The videos, “Karmastition” by Detroit Voice, originally by Alicia Keys and Stevie Wonder, and “What About Us” by Clarkston Synergy, originally by P!nk, can be previewed on the group’s Facebook pages and Youtube. The full length videos will be available on Youtube starting on Jan. 13.
Both groups have also been honored to have recordings selected to be on the 2019 BOHSA albums, Best of High School A Cappella, which is a world wide distribution of the best high school a cappella recordings each year. This is the fifth appearance for Detroit Voice, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019; and the second appearance for Clarkston Synergy, 2018 and 2019, on the compilation album. The a cappella program will perform at Clarkston Idol as well.
Clarkston Idol, begun in 2010 by Clarkston music teacher Brian Haverkate, takes place Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Clarkston Junior High School Auditorium. Sixteen singers from grades K-12 will compete in divisions to become this year’s Clarkston Idol. Tickets are available from, and remaining tickets will be available at the door beginning around 6 p.m. on the 12th. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5, students/seniors. Audience members with a Twitter account can help vote for the winners in each division through Twitter polls by following @clarkstonidol via Twitter.
The event will also feature a performance by the 2019 Aca Boot Camp performers, grades 3-8, who will participate in a weeklong after-school camp to learn the basics of a cappella singing, beatboxing, and performing in general. The 35 Clarkston students will join the a cappella program for a performance not to be missed.
