Pay adjustment

When the Independence Township clerk (Cari Neubeck) and treasurer (Rachel Loughrin) were appointed and brought on board in July 2019, the township had a tiered pay structure for elected officials in place based on the number of terms served, and first-term salaries were less than second-term salaries.
“What we just found out is there is a law that states appointed officials must be paid the same as the elected official leaving office,” said Independence Township Supervisor Pat Kittle. “As such, the clerk and treasurer will be brought up to the same pay scale as the supervisor ($87,000) and an estimated $16,000 one-time adjustment will be made for the clerk and the treasurer for the error.”
