Lesser charge
A former Western Michigan University hockey team captain from Clarkston has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge in a rape case.
According to WOOD, an NBC affiliate out of Grand Rapids, 23-year-old Paul Washe was being charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct.
He pleaded guilty to “seduction” and the criminal sexual conduct charge was dismissed. Washe was charged after a woman reported that he raped her at a party on Dec. 5, 2021.
According to WOOD, the woman told her friends right after the assault but did not report it to the police until three days later. WOOD said that Washe admitted to having sex with the student but said it was consensual.

Car fire, truck accident
Two separate incidents on Sept. 8 caused issues on Clarkston roadways.
On M-15, a wide load tractor trailer was being escorted by two vehicles (front and back) hauling a large piece of equipment (via an approved permit).
As it was northbound just north of Hubbard Road, the item they were hauling partially caught some of the telephone lines, causing them to fall onto the roadway.
The situation caused a traffic hazard and the road was blocked off until AT&T arrived for repairs.
The other incident was a vehicle fire on Waldon Road just west of Renaissance High School and Clarkston Elementary.
There were no injuries, and Independence Township Fire Department extinguished the flames without incident.
The incident caused temporary traffic issues, but the roadway was reopened a short time after the vehicle was extinguished.
As of now, it is unknown what caused the fire, but it was reported the vehicle appeared to displaying heavy charring to the engine area.
Clarkston Community Schools buses were delayed due to both incidents.
