Looking for something family-friendly and of service to the community? Sign up with My Habitat Clarkton’s Community Impact Weekend, Nov. 3-4.
Many projects are planned throughout the community, including many open to youth to earn community service hours.
Indoor and outdoor projects include serving at local homeless shelters, cleaning up Clarkston Family Farm and working in school gardens.
“We have care bags that will be assembled and distributed to local nursing homes and treatment centers. They have different note pads and some extra items for when people have to stay in facilities, like toothbrushes, toothpaste, and puzzle books,” said Kellee Rainoldi of Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church. “We’ll be working with Neighbor for Neighbor and packing bags of food for Thanksgiving. We’ll also have our traditional rake-and-runs, where groups go to local seniors’ homes and rake their leaves.”
Most projects start around 10:30 a.m. and last until the early afternoon. Some start earlier, around 8:30-9 a.m.
There are many more volunteers needed and spots to be filled on projects, Rainoldi said.
“We currently we have 200 people signed up for 450 spots,” she said.
This year, there will be a celebration on Sunday from 12:30-3:30 p.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church.
“Typically what happens is they will bring your lunches, but this year for those activities closer to Calvary Lutheran Church, they are having a celebration at the church, trying to get all of the volunteers in the building at one time to meet different people and see the types of projects they did,” she said.
