Clarkston Area Lions Club members will take to local streets and store fronts from April 28 through May 6, White Cane Week.
Donations will be used to support sight and hearing projects including Leader Dogs for the Blind in Rochester, Lions Bear Lake Camp for Physically Challenged Youth in Lapeer, Penrickton Center for Blind Children in Taylor, Beaumont Silent Children Fund, and the District 11A2 Lions Hearing Program for Oakland and Macomb Counties.
“Money raised during White Cane Week will also allow Lions to meet the needs in our community, including such items as eyeglass and hearing aid support for those in need and vision screening of pre-school children,” said club President Dan Wung.
Prior year White Cane donations helped the club purchase an automated vision assessment tool used at monthly vision screenings at the Clarkston Independence District Library and other local events.
The Lions also assist the Clarkston Independence District Library to provide reading facilities and materials for the sight impaired, and support other local organizations, including Clarkston Lighthouse and O.A.T.S.
“Lions Club members thank everyone who contributes to this important work. You are truly helping Lions make a difference in our community,” Wung said.
