Words from the Sup’t: Getting ready to celebrate the Class of 2021

Fittingly, the theme for this year’s Clarkston High School graduation is “perseverance.”
As I look around our school district these days, perseverance is exactly what I see. I see our teachers giving their all to help students finish strong despite the many disruptions and challenges of this school year.
The Class of 2021, in particular, has demonstrated unshakable determination in the face of adversity. They applied to colleges without ever stepping foot on campus, prepped for SAT and ACT tests that were rescheduled time and time again, and found creative ways to forge a path to a future that excites them.
In a few short weeks, our resilient graduates of Clarkston High School and Renaissance High School will cross the stage and be awarded their hard-earned diplomas, capping the end of their history-making high school years. The lessons they have learned in this pandemic have no doubt prepared them well for their future endeavors!
You may have seen the “Proud Home of a Clarkston Graduate” signs around your neighborhood, and certainly you have watched these incredible kids grow up over the years.
Now, I’d like to invite every member of our community to celebrate the perseverance of the Class of 2021 with us on Saturday, June 5 during the Clarkston Commencement Cruise from 1-4 p.m.
Graduates and their families will be cruising around town, driving past their old schools, friends’ homes, local hangouts, and workplaces. No matter where you live in Clarkston, you are on the route!
Please come out to show support and help us paint the town blue and gold in their honor!
If you are a business owner or resident who wants to get involved in a special way, please email the district’s Director of Marketing & Community Relations, Mary Ellen Rowe at merowe@clarkston.k12.mi.us or visit www.Clarkston.k12.mi.us/cruise2021 for more information about this exciting event.
