Perhaps the Independence Township Board of Trustees should only speak for themselves instead of the entire township (“Township not in favor of public transit millage,” Aug. 17, 2022, Clarkston News) and let the people decide.
To say, “The Charter Township of Independence opposes the 2022 Oakland County Public Transportation Millage…” may be true, but the board doesn’t know that unless they have asked every single person in the township.
That is what a public vote is for, and I fail to understand why elected politicians are so afraid of a public vote.
Maybe they already know that they don’t always speak for everyone.
